Lacor Hospital inserts equipment maintenance in its training programs.

What kills biomedical equipment? The lack of preventive maintenance and the incorrect utilization by the end user are among the major causes of biomedical equipment breakdowns.

For this reason, the Biomedical Equipment Maintenance Services Department of St. Mary's Hospital Lacor has been working hard to improve on both areas.

Starting in March 2026, a new course has been integrated in the syllabus of the Lacor nursing and midwifery school. The objective of this initiative is to strengthen the students’ competence in the safe and effective use of medical equipment, while also promoting proper equipment care and early fault reporting.

The initiative has already targeted approximately 140 students, and will soon be extended to junior cohorts, including the diploma nursing class.

This initiative is expected to contribute significantly reduce equipment misuse and breakdowns, and boost collaboration between the clinical and biomedical teams.

And, most important, it will improve the service to our patients.
