At Entebbe Airport, the authorities are in high alert, screening passengers to prevent the spread of Ebola in the country.
As soon as we stepped off the plane in Entebbe, officials conducted a brief check of our electronic declaration regarding where we had travelled from and whether we had any Ebola symptoms. Our temperatures were also taken. The atmosphere was relaxed, and customs checks were limited to the usual baggage screening.
We spent the night in Entebbe before continuing to Gulu the next morning, in daylight. The hotel manager told us that the number of travellers had fallen considerably because of the ongoing Ebola outbreak in Congo and, to a lesser extent, in Uganda. Many people had cancelled their trips out of fear of the virus or to avoid possible self-quarantine or confinement measures upon returning home.
